'It's going to happen' - Fabrizio Romano delivers update on Xabi Alonso's next Chelsea signing

Chelsea will add two new players to their squad under new boss Xabi Alonso in the coming days, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano delivering an update on what will be two surprising additions.

The Blues have been very active in the summer transfer window already, adding six new players with a seventh in Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace likely to be concluded this week too.

Lacroix will join Geovany Quenda, Denner, Dastan Satpaev, Emmanuel Emegha, Marco Palestra and Morgan Rogers as new arrivals at Stamford Bridge.

Xabi Alonso has targeted experienced players

And the eighth and ninth signings will be for players no supporter will have ever expected when the transfer window opened.

Alonso is looking to add some experience and leadership to the squad he inherited from interim boss Calum MacFarlane, and he is about to bring in two players with a combined age of 71 - Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck.

Welbeck is all but done, with everything agreed between Chelsea and Brighton for his transfer.

Romano said on his Youtube channel: "Danny Welbeck to Chelsea is a here we go. The deal is agreed between Chelsea and Brighton.

"Everything is in place. The player is ready to undergo his medical test and sign his contract at Chelsea. Everything agreed. Welbeck has been very respectful with Brighton, he spoke to the club to tell them about his desire to go to Chelsea for a final big opportunity, unexpected at this stage of his career.

"He asked Brighton to get the green light and the agreement is done between the two clubs and the agreement is done on the contract. Welbeck set for medical test and contract signing."

Jordan Henderson will make a big decision today

Henderson still has a contract at Brentford, having arrived in west London last summer from Ajax, but that deal will be ripped up and the England international will also become a new Chelsea player.

Romano added: "Talking about Chelsea the next here we go will be quite soon, it's a matter of hours, but Jordan Henderson today will terminate his contract at Brentford. The agreement between Henderson and Brentford will be respected and the idea will be that he leaves as a free agent and get a new opportunity at Chelsea.
