Liverpool’s preseason friendly against Wrexham has been thrown into major doubt, with the Reds facing difficulties just getting to New York for Wednesday’s game.
The Reds are scheduled to face the Championship side at Yankee Stadium, with kick-off at 7:30 pm local time (12:30 am U.K. time on Thursday morning). Their preparations have been severely disrupted though, with their flight from Chicago among the hundreds canceled due to adverse weather conditions.
A heavy thunderstorm in the NYC area means Liverpool’s squad will have to try traveling on the day of the game, which is far from ideal for Andoni Iraola’s side — and there are still doubts lingering over whether they will be able to make it to New York.
The north-east of the U.S. has been battered by storms this week, with New York and much of the Tri-State area under a flood watch since Tuesday morning. The affected areas include the Bronx, where Yankee Stadium is situated, with Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island also affected.
A travel advisory was put into effect from 8am on Tuesday to 8am on Wednesday, with residents urged to plan extra travel time as two to four inches of rain was predicted.

New York mayor Zohran Mamdani posted on X on Tuesday: “Heavy rain is returning to New York City this afternoon.
"Our agencies are out preparing our infrastructure to quickly move stormwater off our streets, but everyone has a part to play in keeping themselves and their communities safe.
“New Yorkers should prepare now for showers and thunderstorms that will pick up this afternoon and could cause dangerous flash flooding — even a short period of rainfall can quickly flood streets, basements, and low-lying areas.”
According to ABC, heavy rounds of rain are expected to continue into Wednesday, with the flood threat continuing, while the New York Times has also reported that the storms could deliver gusts of wind up to 70 miles per hour, with the risk of tornadoes across southeastern Virginia and into the center of North Carolina.

BBC Weather suggests that the chances of rainfall will drop on Wednesday, although there is still the possibility of thundery showers throughout the day, leading up to the scheduled kick-off time of 7:30 pm.

If the game goes ahead, it could therefore be subject to delays.
Liverpool is due to wear its new away kit against Wrexham, having unveiled the white offering for the 2026/27 season early on Wednesday morning.
The meeting with the Championship side is the penultimate game scheduled for the Reds’ tour of the U.S., with their final game scheduled for Sunday against Leeds in Chicago.
