Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan has spoken on reports that a consortium led by Amit Bhatia wants to acquire a stake at the club.
In recent weeks, reports have revealed that a consortium led by British‑Indian entrepreneur Amit Bhatia has approached FSG over a strategic minority stake in the club.
UK ONLY
Bhatia, formerly co‑owner and director at Queens Park Rangers, is backed by the billionaire Mittal family.
What has really grabbed the attention of Reds supporters, though, is the calibre of names being linked to that consortium.
Multiple reports suggest Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has held discussions about joining Bhatia’s investor group, which is said to be exploring a bid for up to 30% of Liverpool.
Bezos, whose personal fortune is estimated at well over $200bn, has previously looked at NFL franchises in the United States and is now being talked about as a potential minority investor at Anfield.
Against that backdrop of speculation, Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan was always going to be asked to address the situation
Speaking to Bloomberg Business, the Liverpool CEO commented on the club’s approach to outside investment in the context of the reports that FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s over FIFA’s reported plan to sell a minority stake in a new commercial company linked to the World Cup:
“From our perspective at the club, we’ve always looked at running the club sustainably, which does mean investment and commercial growth. But also meaning how we maintain that connection with our supporters and the overall ethos of what Liverpool Football Club stands for.”
On the consortium reports, Hogan added:
“I can only refer back to the statement from FSG last week that we have been approached by a consortium that’s led, managed and represented by Amit Bhatia for a strategic minority investment in the club. And I wouldn’t say anything other than that at this point.”
For now, Hogan’s careful words suggest that while outside investment is firmly on the table, any deal will have to fit with the club’s long‑term vision and the values Liverpool supporters expect.
