Liverpool have explored move for 'generational' Real Madrid player who could be allowed to…

Liverpool could make a surprise move for Real Madrid star Arda Guler this summer, with the playmaker's future at the Bernabeu uncertain due to the imminent arrival of Yan Diomande, according to TEAMtalk.

Guler enjoyed an outstanding season for Los Blancos last term, despite the Spanish giants' struggles, scoring seven goals and providing a mammoth 16 assists across all competitions. Despite this, the Turkey international's status in the Madrid side's squad is unclear after the arrival of new manager Jose Mourinho, and the potential arrival of Diomande.

The 19-year-old RB Leipzig winger is said to be closing in on a switch to Real Madrid, with a deal worth around €110 million agreed between the two clubs.

Given Guler often operates on the right, where Diomande could be used by Mourinho, the 21-year-old may struggle for minutes next term, and Liverpool are subsequently monitoring his situation.

Liverpool Could Target Arda Guler

It's well documented that Liverpool's biggest priority this summer is to find a replacement of sorts for Mohammed Salah. While a direct like-for-like replacement for the great Egyptian is unlikely to be sourced, they need a new option on the right-hand side of their attack.

Bradley Barcola is the primary target, though Paris Saint-Germain's excessive demands for the Frenchman may ultimately deter the Reds.

The Merseyside club are therefore lining up potential alternatives and TEAMtalk suggest that Guler is among those they could target.

While it's not certain the 'generational' Turk will be available this summer, his future in the Spanish capital is expected to be revisited if a deal for Diomande goes through.

Brahim Diaz, Endrick and Franco Mastantuono are all also facing assessments on their futures, with the addition of the teenage superstar set to prompt a reshuffle of Real Madrid's attacking options.

Liverpool feel they could exploit this situation at the Bernabeu, and are prepared to make a move for Guler if things shake loose in Madrid.

Liverpool Need a Proper Winger

Guler is an excellent player who would add creativity and guile to Liverpool's ranks. However, with Salah gone and Luis Diaz leaving last summer, the Reds are short on out-and-out wingers.

Aside from new signing Victor Munoz, Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa are the only true wide men left in Andoni Iraola's squad. Ngumoha is still just 17, while the other two are being linked with moves away.

Three of these four players are also much more comfortable operating off the left, meaning there is a clear lack of right-sided attacking threat in Liverpool's ensemble.

This is why links to Barcola continue to circulate, but also why Guler, more of a number ten than a winger, would be a slightly awkward fit for Iraola's side.
