Fabrizio Romano on 'personal terms' to complete deal for 'fantastic player'

Fabrizio Romano claims that Liverpool expect it will be easy to agree personal terms with Bradley Barcola, but agreeing on a transfer fee with PSG remains a major challenge.

Romano’s update suggests that, despite some earlier claims, personal terms are not yet agreed, even if it will not be difficult to convince the French forward to sign a Liverpool contract.

On Tuesday, L’Equipe reporter Loic Tanzi claimed that personal terms had been agreed with Barcola.

He reported: “Bradley Barcola has now given Liverpool his agreement in principle over a potential transfer. Barcola has held talks in recent days with several Liverpool officials, as well as head coach Andoni Iraola, and is hopeful that the two clubs can reach an agreement which would allow him to make the move.

“Liverpool have now opened discussions with their Paris Saint-Germain counterparts. PSG, while now open to a sale, remain firm in their financial demands, with a significant gap still separating the two clubs’ valuations.”

Liverpool want Barcola & Barcola wants Liverpool

Speaking on his YouTube channel on Tuesday, Fabrizio Romano updated fans on the status of Liverpool’s pursuit of Barcola.

“Basically, the situation is that Liverpool want Barcola,” the Italian said.

“Liverpool have Barcola as a top priority.

“Barcola wants to go to Liverpool. Barcola loves Liverpool’s project and is very tempted by the opportunity to play for Liverpool.

“So, there is no doubt that personal terms can be agreed.

“There will be no problem, no issue, but, as of today, they have yet to reach an agreement on the numbers.

“They will start soon.

“I don’t see any issue, I don’t see any problems.

“Again, Barcola is tempted by Liverpool, and because this story has been reported here several times, Liverpool want the player.”

Liverpool are ready to play hardball with PSG over rumoured £145m asking price

The Italian journalist continued, saying that while it will not be an issue to agree on personal terms with Bradley Barcola, it will be much harder to reach an agreement with PSG.

He said: “PSG will not make things easy in terms of money.

“Obviously, they consider Barcola a fantastic player.

“Basically, all the top European clubs are looking for wingers.

“Barcola is young, is a serial winner, is a top talent, is a top player, so PSG will ask for a lot of money.

“So, it’s going to be up to Liverpool to decide how much they can invest and whether they can match PSG’s valuation.

“On personal terms, don’t expect any problems, but for sure, Liverpool are going to work hard over the next few days and the next few weeks to understand what can happen there.”

If Liverpool can get this done, Andoni Iraola will be ecstatic

Barcola is the perfect signing for the way that Andoni Iraola wants his new Liverpool team to play.

At the moment, in terms of the Spaniard’s tactics, the buzz word online is ‘verticality.’ Essentially, Iraola is a major fan of getting his teams to go from defence to attack immediately. This means he needs fast, pacy wingers to explode out of defence.

Barcola is arguably the best in Europe at this.

His speed means he is able to leave defenders for dead, while he is also very good at timing runs behind opposition backlines. For Iraola, his signing is essential.
