Leeds United are exploring a move to sign Chelsea striker Liam Delap as Xabi Alonso continues to reshape his attacking options.
Chelsea are prepared to consider offers for the 23-year-old following a difficult debut season at Stamford Bridge.
iNews reports that Delap’s representatives have spoken to several Premier League clubs in an attempt to secure regular first-team football. Everton are also interested, but Leeds have now positioned themselves in the race.
Liam Delap Leeds United transfer considered
Delap joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town last summer after scoring 12 Premier League goals during the 2024/25 campaign.
His first season in west London was disrupted by injury and limited opportunities. Chelsea’s official statistics credit him with one Premier League goal and three goals in all competitions.
The striker started Chelsea’s 6-4 pre-season victory over Western Sydney Wanderers on Tuesday. However, João Pedro replaced him at half-time before scoring three goals and providing an assist in nine minutes. Chelsea’s official match report confirmed that Delap led the attack during the opening period.
Competition could increase further when Chelsea complete their expected move for Danny Welbeck. ReadChelsea previously reported that the club will listen to offers for Delap and Emmanuel Emegha as Alonso attempts to reduce the number of centre-forwards in his squad.
Leeds already have an established focal point in Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Delap would provide another physical option while offering greater long-term potential at 23.
A move could also give Delap the consistent minutes he failed to secure at Chelsea. However, Leeds would need to convince him that he can play regularly rather than simply provide cover.
Chelsea have not received a reported formal offer. Leeds are exploring the conditions of a possible deal, while Everton remain another potential destination.
