New York City Emergency Management has released a weather caution ahead of Liverpool’s friendly with Wrexham at the Yankee Stadium.

Liverpool’s clash with Wrexham in New York is set up as a showcase night for Andoni Iraola’s squad and the club’s fresh 2026/27 away kit, but the Big Apple’s severe weather has thrown an unwelcome variable into the mix.
The likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak alongside a few others have come back from their World Cup break, and there is a chance to see the pair in action for their first minutes of pre-season.

The game has also been earmarked as the on‑pitch debut of Liverpool’s 2026/27 Adidas away strip, a white jersey with red detailing inspired by the iconic 1980s designs and paired with red shorts and white socks.
The club has leaned into the New York backdrop, even lighting up the Empire State Building in red and wrapping city cabs to promote the kit launch.
While Liverpool’s marketing machine has turned Manhattan and Brooklyn into a temporary extension of Merseyside, the city itself is braced for a serious bout of summer storms.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for New York City and much of the Tri-State area, with powerful storms expected to bring significant rainfall and the potential for flash flooding from Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
New York City Emergency Management has issued a detailed travel advisory covering the period from 8am on Tuesday July 28 to 8am on Wednesday July 29, urging residents and visitors to adjust their plans.
Officials state that 2–4 inches of rain is likely citywide, with locally higher amounts, and that rainfall rates might exceed 2 inches per hour, which could lead to flooding in some areas:
“We have issued a travel advisory in effect tomorrow, starting at 8am Tuesday, July 28, through 8am Wednesday, July 29, and we are urging people to plan extra travel time and be cautious while traveling. We expect 2–4 inches of rain citywide, with locally higher amounts, and rainfall rates may exceed 2 inches per hour, which could lead to flooding in some areas. If you live in a basement apartment, be prepared to move to higher ground, and never drive or walk through flooded streets. If you are using public transportation, do not enter flooded subway stations.”
Liverpool’s flight from Chicago were already disrupted by the condition. At this stage, the expectation is that the club and local authorities will work to get the match on, but any further deterioration in conditions could force late changes to kick-off time or even the schedule itself.
