Arne Slot looks set for a swift return to management just two months after being sacked by Liverpool.
The Dutch coach is currently the leading candidate to become the next manager of the Netherlands men's national team ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. Slot has emerged as the favorite for the role since Ronald Koeman stepped down following the Netherlands' disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign, which ended in a Round of 32 defeat to Morocco.
According to GOAL, Slot is open to taking the position but would prefer a contract that runs through the 2028 European Championship rather than the 2030 World Cup, which is reportedly favored by the KNVB.
As negotiations continue, Slot is currently the oddsmakers’ favorite to become the next permanent manager of the Dutch national team at +163 odds.
If Slot does take the job, it would mark his first national team coaching role at any level and reunite him with Liverpool stars including Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, and Jeremie Frimpong.
With Netherlands set to face Germany in the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League, Slot could soon share the touchline with Jurgen Klopp in a matchup that will certainly pique the interest of Liverpool fans.

The Dutch and German teams are set to face off twice in Group A2, first on Sept. 24 and then again on Nov. 16. Before that mouth-watering matchup is confirmed, though, an agreement needs to be struck between Slot and the KNVB.
Other names in consideration for the Dutch job include Louis van Gaal, who has held three different stints as Netherlands manager and is priced as second-favorite to take the job again at +333 odds.
Current Netherlands U21 manager Michael Reiziger (+400) and former Koeman assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy (+500) are top-rated candidates as well.
Slot was fired by Liverpool on May 30 following a tumultuous second season in charge in which the Reds finished in fifth place in the Premier League.
Some viewed the decision as controversial as Slot led Liverpool to the league title in his first year in charge after replacing Klopp, but the performances stooped to such a low level that FSG felt moving on from the second-year man was the best course of action going forward.

The Reds have since brought in former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, who is currently leading Liverpool on a preseason tour across the United States ahead of the Premier League opener against Newcastle United on Sunday, Aug. 23.
