Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has questioned the Reds' desire to sign Bradley Barcola from PSG this summer, with sporting director Richard Hughes set to press ahead with the transfer.
PSG will sell Barcola, but only for a huge price. Liverpool would like to see that valuation, which currently stands at around $193 million (£145 million), reduced, though it remains to be seen how the negotiations that follow will unfold.
But Carragher is not convinced that Barcola is the perfect option to be considering. Instead, he feels that Liverpool should move for a player who is more suited to playing as a left-footer cutting inside from the right.
Carragher responded to a social media post from Sky Sports on Wednesday that asked the question of whether Barcola is the right option to replace Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.
"No, he plays on the opposite flank!" Carragher wrote. "LFC currently have three players who could play from the left in Rio/Gakpo/Wirtz & no one who plays from the right."
In response, one Liverpool fan suggested that should Barcola arrive, Rio Ngumoha would then switch to the right-hand side, where he played successfully for England before the World Cup.

That could then allow Barcola to play on the left and rotate with Cody Gakpo. Victor Munoz, the summer signing from Osasuna, is best from the left-hand side as well.
"Well Rio has always played from the left so that’s obviously his best position," Carragher replied. "Gakpo should move really but who knows.
"I’m interested to see where Wirtz plays, if he’s 10 Dom plays CM. I’m not sure about that. Need a right winger desperately!"
Though Barcola appears to prefer playing on the right, Andoni Iraola likes his wingers to be comfortable on both sides. At Bournemouth, he turned Antoine Semenyo into a forward equally devastating on either wing.

So far this summer, Liverpool has only signed Munoz and center-back Jeremy Jacquet. Barcola is the next priority, while the Reds are also light in numbers in defense, with Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni still coming back from long-term injuries.
Liverpool.com says: Barcola is a big talent. While he does often play on the left, he can play on the right as well. The main thing he is looking for is more minutes, which the Reds can offer.
Last summer, Liverpool didn't want to block the pathway of Ngumoha by signing someone else. That wouldn't be the case here, as both are comfortable playing on either side.
