Wrexham's tongue-in-cheek social media jibe at Liverpool has left them looking a little bit silly. Andoni Iraola's side will take on Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's beloved Red Dragons in a friendly in New York.
Ahead of their clash at the Yankee Stadium, the Empire State Building was lit up in Liverpool red ahead of the famous friendly. This sight was photographed and re-shared by the Reds' social media team.
After coming across the post, the Wrexham admin decided to have a cheeky little dig at Liverpool, by stating the iconic sky scraper was lit up in red to pay tribute to the Red Dragons, rather than the Reds. Unfortunately for them, their theory was contradicted by the social media page of the building itself.

When Liverpool first saw the picture, the club's social media team wrote: "The Empire State Building is lit up for the Reds" which prompted the Championship side to respond: "I think this might have been for us..." alongside an eyes emoji.
What the Championship side did not know was the Empire State Building Observation Deck page on X had already confirmed the red lighting was to celebrate the reveal of Liverpool's new away kit for the 2026/27 campaign.
Liverpool fans on social media could not wait to poke fun at Wrexham's social media team for their unfortunate tweet. One fan wrote: "If you made it to the Prem (Premier League), potentially."
Another laughed: "You should be thankful you play Liverpool", while another re-shared the Empire State X page and added: "So this is awkward."
It was a rare moment of defeat for Wrexham, who have been enjoying an excellent start to their pre-season. They go into the friendly against Liverpool with plenty of confidence, as they overcame Manchester United 1-0 in a friendly in Helsinki, Finland.
They then followed this up by beating Leeds United 3-2 in a friendly in Tampa, Florida. Before the clash, Reynolds spoke to the press about how much he is relishing facing the Reds in New York, five years after he and McElhenney purchased then when they were still in the National League.
He said: "We're not only coming to America to play again, in what has always been the most exhilarating and exciting thing to see live, but to do it with three Premier League teams in a row in Tampa, New York and Philly is pretty amazing.
"You know, to have to play to host Liverpool in Yankee Stadium - with that kind of history and pedigree - I just don't know what to make of it. We cannot wait to fill that stadium, and watch the boys out there just do what they do best.
"I mean, it's always so electric and, you know, the 165-year plus history of Wrexham has seen its fair share of giant killings. Liverpool is as big as it gets, certainly on the world stage. So we're very excited to to see what we can do."
