Wrexham have enjoyed a close to faultless pre-season so far, but there has been a misstep ahead of their friendly against Liverpool

Wrexham's social media team endured a moment to forget in their attempt to poke fun at Liverpool. The Red Dragons are riding an exciting pre-season wave which takes them to the Yankee Stadium to face the Reds.
They have already beaten Manchester United 1-0 in Helsinki, courtesy of Sam Smith's strike in the first half in Finland. Phil Parkinson's side then showed great resilience to come from behind to overcome Leeds United 3-2 in Tampa, Florida.
Feeling confident, the club's admin thought they would have a bit of fun with the Reds on X. Liverpool reposted a video of the Empire State Building being lit up red and said: "The Empire State Building is lit up for the Reds."
It was then the Red Dragons' online team struck with a tongue in cheek tweet which read: "I think this might have been for us..." alongside the eyes emoji. What they had not noticed was the iconic building was illuminated in dark red to promote the launch of Liverpool's new away kit.
They would have known this had they spotted the original video was sent by the Empire State Building Observation Deck page, which tweeted: "It’s a Liverpool red kind of night! Celebrating the 2026/27 away kit reveal."
Liverpool supporters on social media were quick to mock Wrexham's social media team for their ill-timed post. One supporter commented: "If you made it to the Prem (Premier League), potentially."
Another joked: "You should be thankful you play Liverpool", while another re-shared the Empire State X page and remarked: "So this is awkward."
It represented an unusual setback for Wrexham, who have been experiencing a superb beginning to their pre-season campaign. Their triumph over United will give them plenty of confidence against Andoni Iraola's side.
Ahead of the encounter, Ryan Reynolds addressed the media about his excitement at facing the Reds in New York, five years after he and Rob McElhenney acquired the club when they were still competing in the National League.
He said: "We're not only coming to America to play again, in what has always been the most exhilarating and exciting thing to see live, but to do it with three Premier League teams in a row in Tampa, New York and Philly is pretty amazing.
"You know, to have to play to host Liverpool in Yankee Stadium - with that kind of history and pedigree - I just don't know what to make of it. We cannot wait to fill that stadium, and watch the boys out there just do what they do best.
"I mean, it's always so electric and, you know, the 165-year plus history of Wrexham has seen its fair share of giant killings. Liverpool is as big as it gets, certainly on the world stage. So we're very excited to to see what we can do."
