Still, Chelsea can’t ignore reality.
Badiashile‘s market value has taken a significant hit over the past year. Long spells on the treatment table, inconsistent displays and just 11 starts across the season have changed how clubs judge him. Once Alonso removed him from his plans and placed him outside the senior group, Chelsea lost plenty of leverage.
Keeping him around offers little benefit. His wages remain on the payroll, he occupies a squad place, and there’s almost no sign that his situation will improve while Alonso continues reshaping the defence. Waiting for a club to match the full €30 million asking price could easily become an expensive gamble. A smarter route sits somewhere in the middle.
Chelsea should respond with a structured proposal worth around €24 million. An arrangement involving €20 million guaranteed and another €4 million through realistic performance-related bonuses would reflect the circumstances far better than either side’s opening position. A loan carrying a mandatory obligation to buy would achieve much the same result while helping Napoli spread the financial commitment.
That compromise makes financial sense for Chelsea because much of the original transfer fee has already been amortised over the past three and a half years, limiting the accounting impact under Profit and Sustainability Rules. Napoli, meanwhile, secure an experienced left-footed defender without stretching their budget in one payment.
We believe Chelsea should move away from their €30 million valuation because the market has already delivered its verdict on Badiashile’s current standing. At the same time, Napoli’s opening €17.5 million offer falls well short of a fair price for a player entering what should be the strongest years of his career. A deal worth around €23-24 million, or a loan with a mandatory purchase clause reaching that figure through achievable add-ons, gives Chelsea a clean exit, trims the wage bill and gives Napoli the defender they urgently need without paying above market value.
