Those qualities explain why Liverpool have pushed hard to secure his agreement. Still, talent alone doesn’t justify every price.
PSG’s reported £145 million valuation feels detached from reality. Barcola remains an outstanding young winger, although his numbers don’t match that sort of figure. 11 league goals represent an impressive return, yet Liverpool would still pay for what he might become rather than what he consistently delivers today.
Then comes the tactical picture. Andoni Iraola inherits a squad that already contains proven left-sided attackers in Cody Gakpo and emerging academy talent Rio Ngumoha. Mohamed Salah’s departure leaves a much bigger vacancy on the opposite flank, where Liverpool ideally need a naturally left-footed winger capable of drifting inside from the right. Paying £145 million would hand the French champions a perfect deal while asking Liverpool to shoulder almost all of the risk.
