Liverpool's new away kit with a red shirt and white shorts attracted anger across social media as the Reds face Wrexham in New York with a team of young players

Liverpool debuted the club's 2026/27 away kit with a dazzling kit launch on Tuesday night in Brooklyn, as legends Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, and others showed off the new white top.
Once it was unveiled on the pitch for the Reds' preseason fixture against Wrexham at Yankee Stadium in New York, however, the online reaction turned sour: fans couldn't believe Liverpool had decided to pair a white top with red shorts.
While some were positive — "wasn't keen at first but now I'm a fan," wrote one — most took offense to the stylistic decision, comparing the look to a Manchester United one.
"Why are we [wearing] red shorts? It looks like a United kit that way, ffs," one fan noted. "Red shirt and white shorts make us look like Manchester United, and I don’t like it," another argued.
Wrexham — an English Championship side co-owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney — showed up to Yankee Stadium in red and white shirts, a typical Liverpool look.

Fans had loads of humor on the subject. "Trying to watch 2 teams play in a white top/ red shorts and red top/ white shorts is sending my astigmatism into meltdown, I can't see," one pointed out.
"Liverpool and Wrexham should switch shorts," a different fan joked. "Red shorts do kinda look like we've just brought the wrong kit along," another one joked.

"Looks strange tbh, actually thought we were wearing the home kit shorts at first. I think that's what makes it look strange, looks like we're wearing both kits together lol," a fan commented.
In a press release, Liverpool championed the Adidas fit as one that brings a "clean on-pitch look.
"The 2026/27 away kit is completed with red shorts and white socks, featuring coordinated detailing and adidas branding to create a clean on-pitch look," the club's statement read.

Liverpool started a host of youngsters against Wrexham, including Calvin Ramsay, Luke Chambers, Trey Nyoni, Joshia Abe, Lewis Koumas, Callum Scanlon, and Ifeanyi Ndukwe.
Dominik Szoboszlai, one of the Reds' more senior players on the club's preseason trip, captained the side. The average age of the Liverpool starting XI was just 21.2, a drop from the side's average of 22.7 against Sunderland last week (a 4-2 result).
Liverpool will take on Leeds United next Sunday in Chicago, and the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and others are expected to return.
