WREXHAM slipped to their first pre-season loss in a narrow 1-0 reverse to Liverpool in New York.
More than 42,000 fans were in attendance at Yankee Stadium as England international's Rio Ngumoha’s deflected strike earned Liverpool the victory.
Goalkeeper Danny Ward started against his former team, with Zak Vyner, Dan Scarr and Callum Doyle taking their places in the back three.
Ryan Longman and George Thomason were the starting wing-backs, while captain Matty James and Lewis O’Brien played in the middle.
Ollie Rathbone and Davis Keillor-Dunn played behind striker Sam Smith.
Liverpool’s young starting line-up started brightly and Joshua Abe ran on to a through ball in the third minute but Ward was able to gather.
Two minutes later and Lewis Koumas fashioned a shooting chance, but he dragged his effort wide across goal.
Koumas threaded an eighth minute pass to Callum Scanlon, but Ward came up with the save.
Wrexham managed to grow into the game and they had their first sight of goal in the 12th minute when Smith’s shot was deflected over.
A minute later, Thomason’s clever flick gave O’Brien space to cross, with Doyle header going wide at the far post.
Wrexham continued to press and when Smith chased a long ball in behind, Giorgi Mamardashvili spread himself well to save.
Keillor-Dunn concluded a mazy run by curling his right-footed shot just wide of the target and Mamardashvili was called into action to save Smith's volley, but the Wrexham striker was offside.
Doyle headed straight at Mamardashvili with the final opportunity of the half.
Harry Ashfield replaced Rathbone at half-time and just 19 seconds into the second-half Wrexham went close again.
O’Brien crossing just in front of Ashfield and Longman fired wide at the back post.
At the other end, Scarr slid in to deny Koumas in the area and Szoboszlai’s long-range follow-up was headed over.
Szoboszlai shot low but straight at Ward soon afterwards, before there were changes for both teams just past the hour mark.
Callum Burton replaced Ward in goal, playing behind Max Cleworth, Dom Hyam and Lewis Brunt. Aaron James made it a trio of Academy graduates on the pitch, playing at right wing-back, with Libby Cacace on the left.
George Dobson joined Ashfield in midfield, while Nathan Broadhead, Bailey Cadamarteri and Kieffer Moore completed the line-up.
Broadhead was first to test his luck on 67 minutes, but Mamardashvili dived to his left to save. Moments later, Broadhead teed up George Dobson but his left-footed shot went over the top.
Ngumoha made the breakthrough on 75 minutes. The Liverpool substitute darted inside and his right-footed shot looped off Brunt’s heel and over Burton.
Wrexham looked for a response and Brunt headed just over the top from Dobson’s cross.
Moore was also off target in the last minute from Cacace's centre, while the striker had an effort blocked in stoppage time.
