Harvey Elliott could complete a move to Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Leeds United in the summer transfer window, according to former scout Bryan King.
The Reds won 1-0 against Wrexham in New York in the early hours of Thursday morning, with Andoni Iraola assessing the performance of his team after the game:
“Yeah, I think overall we were more solid than the other day. It was a different kind of game, the pitch is quite narrow and there are not a lot of spaces. But I think we had good spells. And even if the other day maybe you score more goals and it looks nicer, I think today we were more a team and more collective.”
Elliott was among those to feature for Liverpool at Yankee Stadium, being denied by former Reds goalkeeper Danny Ward in the second half, but doubts continue to surround his future at Anfield.
Speaking to Football Insider, former Aston Villa scout King talked up a move to Leeds for the 23-year-old this summer, seeing them as a good fit for him:
“I can see Harvey Elliott [join] Leeds, [they’re] a club for him. You know, that kind of club where he can be a key player and get regular time is ideal.
“I never fancied him from day one at Aston Villa. He was competing with Sancho, wasn’t he? He’s obviously leaving Liverpool, so Leeds could work out well for him.”
Should Liverpool keep or sell Harvey Elliott?
This is such a dilemma for Liverpool, and Elliott for that matter, with the boyhood Reds supporter such a talented footballer, being praised by Joe Cole last summer before he joined Villa on loan:
“I love the kid, he plays football the right way. I am excited for his future. He has done a great job for Liverpool, but if he decides to move on, there are levels to move on again. That passion, he can show every week.”
Elliott will want regular starts, however, and with Florian Wirtz an outstanding option ahead of him, and Dominik Szoboszlai also playing as a No.10 at times, it is hard to see that happening.
If Liverpool keep Elliott, it is great for squad depth, but if the right offer for him comes along from Leeds or someone else, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them accept it.
