Liverpool's Premier League opener against Newcastle United will arrive with two new managers in the dugouts as Eddie Howe is set to leave the latter.

According to The Athletic, Howe chose to depart and is set to be replaced by Al Ahli's Matthias Jaissle. He will be going up against Andoni Iraola at St James' Park with that being his first competitive game in charge of Liverpool after replacing Arne Slot.

Howe leaves his role after five years having spent much of his tenure associated with Liverpool following their Carabao Cup final win and the sour Alexander Isak saga last summer.

Club captain Bruno Guimaraes has been at the centre of transfer rumours this summer with two big Newcastle players, in Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, leaving already.

When the two teams come together on Sunday, August 23, it is likely to be a new-look Newcastle United team because of the above departures and their subsequent replacements that have already been signed.

Sean Steur, Bazoumana Toure, Aladji Bamba and Ewen Jaouen have arrived for around £100million with the Magpies receiving exactly that amount from Tottenham for Tonali.

Gordon meanwhile, who had been strongly linked to Liverpool, joined Barcelona for £69million while Arsenal are hoping to strike a deal for Guimaraes in the region of £80m.

If that deal goes through, Newcastle will almost certainly sign another midfielder and they are unlikely to be the only team making moves throughout August.

At Anfield, Bradley Barcola is the focus with talks between the club and Paris Saint-Germain set to take place. Despite missing out on Yan Diomande, the French champions could sell with Maghnes Akliouche firmly on their radar.
