Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has surprised fans after unveiling a dramatic new look following surgery.

Mac Allister surprised Reds supporters back in March after being photographed with a shaved head for the first time in his career, sporting a buzz cut. He posted the images on Instagram with the caption: "Like father like son," while tagging his dad, former professional soccer star Carlos Mac Allister.

Speaking about the change after the 2-1 victory over Mauritania, the Argentina international said: “I was a bald guy with hair, and now I’m a bald guy with a bald head. I had to go down fighting; things were getting tough. I’ve said I did it for my dad, but I think it’s more for my daughter."

Mac Allister has unveiled a fresh new look after switching up his hairstyle again after the World Cup. The Argentina international was pictured sporting a scar from a hair transplant while signing autographs for fans at an airport.

The 27-year-old had previously hinted that his summer plans involved a hair transformation after the World Cup. Speaking back in March, he said: “We’ll see if we can plant a bit more after the World Cup. Right now, time is a bit of a constraint.

"But I’m really happy, I feel like I’m better off than before. Let’s see if there’s a little sponsorship deal."

Fans on social media have also been reacting to the transformation. "Oh thank god he’s growing the hair back." said one fan.

Another added: "He’s officially in his prime."

After a challenging Premier League campaign with Liverpool, which ended with the Reds finishing a disappointing fifth, Mac Allister linked up with Argentina for the country's World Cup defense in North America. The 27-year-old played a key role throughout the tournament, helping his nation secure several memorable victories, including a semifinal win over England.

However, Argentina was unable to retain its crown after suffering a 1-0 extra-time defeat to Spain in the final. Mac Allister is now enjoying some time off before returning to Merseyside, where he is expected to face questions over his future amid reports linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

Mac Allister's father, Carlos, has made it clear that the midfielder's future remains at Liverpool. Speaking to 365Scores after the World Cup final, Carlos insisted his son is committed to continuing his career on Merseyside. "We have not spoken to any Real Madrid official. What is being circulated about us holding talks with Real Madrid is not true," he said.

"Alexis is still on a two-season contract with Liverpool. Currently, he'll get some rest for a few days and then go back to playing in the Premier League; that's the current situation."

Mac Allister still has two years remaining on his current Liverpool contract, although the club are yet to open talks with the Argentina international over a potential new deal.

Both Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravneberch have recently signed new long-term contracts.
