Arsenal‘s Charles Sagoe Jr has revealed talks have already taken place to extend his stay at Kalmar FF.
The winger only made one appearance for Arsenal’s first team, after graduating from their academy.
Arsenal sent him on loan to Swansea City and Shrewsbury Town between February 2024 and June 2025. His situation didn’t improve after returning to the Emirates last season.
In February, the Premier League winners sanctioned a loan move to the Swedish club until the end of this year. That move has seen him enjoy regular game time and he’s managed to impress.
Sagoe Jr has played 1,362 minutes from 16 matches, managing three goals and eight assists for Kalmar FF.
Options in Sweden for Arsenal man
On July 17th, Sport Witness covered claims from Sweden that AIK Fotboll want to break his loan stay at Kalmar FF.
Four days later, the attacker said he’s flattered that a big club like AIK are keen but has to hold talks with Arsenal to sort out his future.
Sweden’s SVT Sport spoke to Charles Sagoe Jr to discuss his time in the Allsvenskan and his future plans. The outlet relays the AIK links but doesn’t focus on them.
On his loan spell in Sweden so far, he said: “It’s been a smooth transition to Swedish soccer, and I want to thank my teammates for that. They’ve helped me feel right at home here. But of course, it’s a big difference compared to London.”
Open to permanent Arsenal exit
The 21-year-old’s temporary deal with Kalmar FF expires in December and there’s no option or obligation to buy. Charles Sagoe Jr, for his part, is open to a longer stay.
When asked whether he can see himself at Kalmar FF in the long term, he talked about the sporting director, Mats Winblad, and his impact.
“Of course, I’m open to staying here,” Sagoe Jr explained.
“Of course, there’s been talk about it. It’s up to Mats, my agent, and myself to discuss those details. Before every match, Mats tells me to just have fun, and when he says that, a weight lifts off my shoulders. I feel the trust from him and the coaches.”
