Lille president Olivier Letang has rejected any suggestion that Matias Fernandez-Pardo will leave this summer despite a transfer request from the player. Arsenal are among the clubs interested in the 21-year-old Belgium international, along with Liverpool, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.
“The player is under contract until 2029, and his departure is not an issue,” Letang said. “We are counting on him, he knows that, and we have been very clear with him.”
Fernandez-Pardo scored eight goals and provided seven assists in Ligue 1 last season, finishing with a strong run of seven goal contributions in the final 10 matches. His form helped Lille secure Champions League qualification before he featured for Belgium at the World Cup, where he made three appearances totalling 41 minutes.

Letang also dismissed reports of a release clause. “He never had a release clause,” the president insisted. “Every player I told could leave has left. It’s the same old story as last summer, with yet another new agent.”
The striker is expected to return to training with Lille this weekend. Arsenal continue to explore attacking options after already completing other business in the window. Fernandez-Pardo’s combination of youth, goal threat and European experience makes him an appealing long-term prospect, yet Lille’s firm stance creates a significant obstacle.
Any interested club would need to persuade the French side to change their position or meet a substantial valuation. For now Letang’s comments make clear that Fernandez-Pardo remains central to Lille’s plans for the new season. Supporters will monitor whether the player’s desire to leave leads to further developments later in the window.
