Liverpool is left sweating over the fitness of Harvey Elliott, after the attacking midfielder picked up what appeared to be a slight injury issue in the preseason clash with Wrexham.
It came in the Reds' 1-0 win over the Championship outfit, as Rio Ngumoha's 75th-minute strike was enough to earn victory for a team that was still a mixture of first-team stars and academy prospects. It was a tough encounter at Yankee Stadium, one that Andoni Iraola hopes can take his players to the next level in preparation for the new season under his style of play.
However, there are fresh concerns for Elliott, who played 62 minutes for Liverpool before being substituted for academy midfield prospect James McConnell.
The star quickly rushed down the tunnel after his time on the field was up, rather than sit on the substitutes' bench with the rest of the team, presumably so he could get some treatment on what appears to be an ankle issue.
Elliott was spotted wearing ice wrapped around his ankle as he applauded the Liverpool fans on his way back to the dressing room with one of the club's medical staff.
The severity of the issue is currently unclear, as further assessment is set to be done before Liverpool's third and final friendly match of the pre-season tour against Leeds United.

There will be some hope that it is just a precaution for the versatile forward, who could end up playing a key role for Iraola after what has been a tough year or so in his own professional career.
Elliott made a surprise return to Liverpool this summer, following last year's loan move to Aston Villa, which had an obligation for a permanent switch after some starts and appearances in the Premier League.
While it was a figure that Unai Emery was almost certain to hit, the manager very quickly made up his mind that the 23-year-old wasn't the right fit for him and decided against playing him to avoid the permanent signing.
It came as quite a shock to all those involved, not least Elliott and Liverpool, as considerations had to be made over the future of the star coming into this summer.
With just one year remaining on his deal, this preseason tour could provide a crossroads in his career, surrounding a potential exit or an extended stay under a new boss in Iraola.

Considering his poor fortune in the past year, everyone involved will now be hoping that Elliott's injury scare is nothing more than a precaution.
