There could be a resolution on whether Bruno Guimaraes will join Arsenal “by Friday”, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Speaking on talkSPORT (quotes via TEAMtalk), Jacobs said that both the Gunners and Newcastle are reluctant to allow this transfer saga to continue for much longer:

“I think Arsenal have grown in optimism…Arsenal feel anything above £75million will stand a chance. Newcastle United sources point towards the number closer to £85m, but with talks ongoing, Arsenal still consider Guimaraes their leading target.

“And I think there’s a fair chance that we get clarity by Friday or shortly after, because both Newcastle United and Arsenal don’t want this to drag on.

Howe’s departure from Newcastle could be a sign

Another journalist, The Telegraph‘s Luke Edwards, claims that manager Eddie Howe resigned from his post at St James’ Park partly because he believes that Guimaraes will be sold.

The decision to sell his captain is said to have been the “final straw”. Other sources suggests that his departure was amicable, but Howe’s comments in recent days do indicate otherwise. Speaking on Wednesday, he didn’t seem particularly happy about the situation:

“Any distraction, it’s not healthy, it’s unhealthy. So, yeah [it would be negative for the speculation to drag on]. But we’re not in control of that. And to some degree, I don’t think Bruno’s in control of that either. What will be, will be.

“We can’t control the forces that are at play here, we’ve just got to make sure that when Bruno comes back, we look after him and he trains well, which I’m sure he will do. And he makes a difference as he always has done.”

Arteta is determined to bring Guimaraes to Arsenal

The Brazilian international has agreed personal terms ahead of of a move to the Emirates, and he is believed to be waiting patiently for the Gunners to agree a fee with Newcastle.

Speaking last week, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that manager Mikel Arteta is the one “pushing” for Guimaraes to join the Premier League champions. The Spaniard belives the Magpies captain is the “perfect player” to strengthen his midfield.

All the indiciations do point towards Guimaraes sealing his transfer to North London, but it remains to be seen whether things will be resolved by the end of the week.
