West Ham United remain locked in negotiations with several transfer targets this summer.
It was reported earlier this week that the reason the Hammers are still waiting to make their first signing ahead of the new Championship season is because a change in strategy.
In contrast to previous years, West Ham are putting all their negotiating power into their top targets in the positions they want to recruit for,
That's instead of giving up and moving on to alternatives at the first sign of difficulty in discussions.
As a result, we're two weeks away from the new season kicking off, and there's still a lot of business that needs to be done before the squad can be considered ready.
There are scores of players on West Ham's wish list, many of whom are backup options.
Every day new names emerge, but it's clear the club isn't any closer to getting the first deal of the summer over the line.
West Ham target Liverpool duo
In a recent update by Hammers insider ExWHUemployee, two Liverpool players were named as potential options for Nuno.
Firstly, young left-back Luke Chambers was mentioned as possible loan option, among a handful of other youngsters playing at top Premier League sides.
The 22-year-old is currently viewed as a player who would come in to provide backup to El Hadji Malick Diouf, who looks to be staying in east London beyond the window.
In recent seasons, Chambers has enjoyed loan spells at Kilmarnock and Wigan Athletic, while he spent last season in the Championship with Charlton Athletic.
He made 18 second tier appearances for the Addicks, registered one assist, but all but two of those appearances came as a left midfielder, rather than at left-back.
That shows he has the kind of versatility Nuno would like to benefit from in his squad.
Having a backup to left-midfield as well as left-back would be ideal, especially after Crysencio Summerville's exit to Saudi Arabia.
West Ham still hold Harvey Elliott interest
The other Liverpool player West Ham are reportedly keen on is Harvey Elliott.
The Hammers have been linked with the midfielder in the past, but ExWHUemployee has provided an interesting update on his availability.
He said: "We were very keen before, but he made a disappointing move to Aston Villa, where he barely played.
"This could give him a chance to rebuild his career by playing a full season.
"Although Liverpool's new manager is still giving his final verdict on the player."
He confirmed that Elliott is being viewed as an ambitious loan option.
Elliott 'disappointing' loan spell with Villa was not his fault and was an ongoing source of frustration for all parties involved.
An obligation to buy clause in his Villa Park loan contract meant the Midlands club had to buy him for £35m if he made 10 Premier League appearances.
Villa decided quite early on that they didn't want to make him a permanent signing, so they reduced him to just five top-flight appearances.
His last one came in February.
He did, though, leave Villa Park with a Europa League winner's medal, having appeared four times in the competition.
So Elliott would likely view a chance to revive his career with the promise of regular first-team football, which West Ham would undoubtedly be able to offer him in the Championship.
But the Hammers are being made to wait on Andoni Iraola's judgement on Elliott before deciding whether or not to make a move.
