Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, according to Simon Collings.
The 19-year-old has been on Dortmund’s radar for some time, with the German club previously making contact over a permanent move as far back as last year. Arsenal have so far been unwilling to sanction a sale, though no final decision on his long-term future has been made.
Nwaneri spent part of last season on loan at Marseille, a move that did not go entirely to plan.
The switch was further complicated by Roberto De Zerbi’s departure from the club shortly after his arrival. He returned to Arsenal having made limited impact during his time in France.
Dortmund have a track record of developing highly rated young English players, having previously worked with Jude Bellingham and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens among others.
The club are said to view Nwaneri as fitting that model, with his combination of technical ability and potential resale value understood to be part of the appeal.
Arsenal still regard Nwaneri as one of the most promising players in their academy system, and have resisted departures for him in previous windows.
Whether that stance holds this summer may depend on how much regular first-team football Mikel Arteta is able to offer him following his return from Marseille.
No formal bid from Dortmund has been reported at this stage.
