Filip Jorgensen has left Chelsea’s pre-season tour early. He is now closing in on a move to Strasbourg this summer. As per the latest transfer news, his future at Chelsea looks settled. The move could be confirmed within days.
Filip Jorgensen Leaves Australia Tour
Filip Jorgensen was part of the 28-man squad that travelled with the Blues to Australia and Asia. Plans changed fast on arrival. As reported by Standard Sport, he has now flown back to England. He is working out the final terms of his exit. He also missed Xabi Alonso’s matchday squad for the opening friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers. It marks a sudden reversal after just one week away.
Injury problems have not helped his cause either. Game time has been hard to find. He played just 12 times in all competitions last season. Groin surgery followed in March, not long after former boss Liam Rosenior gave him a first-team chance. Since then, chances have been hard to come by. Alonso does not appear to see him in his plans.

Premier League 5 0 8
FA Cup 1 0 2
EFL Cup 3 0 5
UCL 3 0 3
Leaving after a big-money move from Villarreal is a tough outcome. Still, a return to regular football makes sense at this stage of his career. Denmark also have a World Cup play-off push ahead, so game time matters. Most fans have been sympathetic, too. Regular starts were always going to be hard to find behind Robert Sanchez.
Strasbourg Move Gathers Pace
As reported by Standard Sport, Strasbourg began looking for a new goalkeeper once Mike Penders finished his loan and went back to his parent club Chelsea. Their interest fits neatly with what the player wants. Jorgensen has been open about wanting regular first-team football this season. That has been in short supply at Stamford Bridge over the last two years. Strasbourg’s pursuit shows how closely the two BlueCo clubs now work together.
As reported by Sports Mole, Filip Jorgensen and Strasbourg have already reached an agreement described as ‘almost done.’ Only the salary details remain unresolved this week. Coventry City have also shown interest in the goalkeeper. Matching Strasbourg’s project and profile in French football looks unlikely for them, though.
Ligue 1 regularity makes far more sense than a bit-part role back in England. The French switch remains the logical route forward. Both sides expect the goalkeeper switch to go through before the window shuts.
What Next For Filip Jorgensen
Filip Jorgensen joined from Villarreal in the summer of 2024. He has made 36 appearances across two seasons at the club. As reported by TEAMtalk, that switch cost close to £20million at the time. The modest return says more about a crowded goalkeeping department than his ability. Two campaigns behind Robert Sanchez have left him short on regular minutes.
As reported by Standard Sport, Alonso himself says he still does not have a clear first-choice goalkeeper. The number one spot remains wide open as the new Premier League season draws near. Robert Sanchez looks likely to start as first choice. Mike Penders could push him for the role after an impressive loan spell.
It is still not clear if Chelsea will sign another shot-stopper before the deadline day arrives. For now, all signs point towards a fresh start in France. Few would begrudge him the chance to finally play regular first-team minutes. It looks a sensible move for both player and club alike.
