The player reportedly wants the move, Arsenal have identified him as a priority, and Newcastle face another squad rebuild after significant departures. Those circumstances usually encourage compromise instead of stubborn resistance.
Money still matters. Newcastle won’t abandon their valuation without a fight, while Arsenal have shown little interest in paying well above market value. Even so, the current gap has narrowed enough to make a settlement between £75 million and £80 million look realistic. That figure would satisfy Newcastle’s financial position and give Arsenal one of Europe’s finest central midfielders entering his prime without stretching negotiations into another exhausting stand-off.
