Matthias Jaissle looks set to take over at Newcastle United following Eddie Howe’s departure, with Chelsea having considered hiring him before selecting Xabi Alonso.
Howe chose to walk away from St. James’ Park following a summer where a large number of his key players have departed, with Bruno Guimaraes potentially set to join that list.
Lewis Hall has also been linked with a surprise return to Stamford Bridge, and Newcastle will be hoping the appointment of Jaissle will steady the ship in the North East.

Chelsea fans may be familiar with his name after he emerged as one of the club’s targets to take over as permanent manager this summer.
The Blues have started pre-season very happy that Alonso is at the helm, although this does not take away from how impressed they were by the German.

As per TeamTALK earlier this summer, Chelsea have become big fans of Jaissle after doing extensive groundwork before hiring their new manager.
He has amassed an impressive 159 wins in 241 matches for a 65% win rate, higher than Jose Mourinho managed in his second stint at Stamford Bridge.
The 38-year-old has won the AFC Champions League twice with Al-Ahli, and has previously been compared with former Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann.

Instead though, the Blues elected to hire Alonso, and are doing their very best to give him the backing required to help turn the failing project around.
The boss clearly noticed how a lack of experience has been hurting Chelsea across the last few seasons, and he has convinced the ownership to bring in some players to address this.
The Blues are expected to announce the signings of Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck imminently, and while they are not being signed for their impact on the pitch, will be significant presences in the dressing room.
