Confidence Liverpool player will move in August–Doing his bit to secure transfer

Inter Milan have been pursuing a move for Liverpool‘s Curtis Jones for months. A decisive move hasn’t been made but there is still hope a deal can go through.

Sport Witness have covered the Nerazzurri’s efforts to sign the midfielder. Their initial offer was deemed too low by the Reds.

A new approach wasn’t made, as Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio made a public statement about Jones. He clarified that the Italian champions remain keen but the costs of the move were proving too high.

The situation hasn’t changed, but Inter have a timeline in mind to make further progress.

Gazzetta dello Sport report today that Inter CEO Beppe Marotta had a dinner meeting with the club’s sporting team yesterday. They discussed transfer plans and ideas before jetting off to the Nerazzurri’s training camp in Asia.

Curtis Jones was a topic of discussion and Inter are set to wait until late August. They want to take advantage of the fact that his Liverpool contract runs out in 2027. The idea is that this will force the Reds into a sale for a discounted price.

Their current demand is €40m, which Inter feel is too much for someone who will be a free agent in a year. Cristian Chivu’s side’s offer stands at €25m and they’re confident the gap will close late in August.

Jones has made ‘every effort’ to make the deal easier too. He wants to join Inter and now, John Stones’ presence at the San Siro is likely to motivate him further.

Our take: Sales will be key

As things stand, Inter may not be able to afford Curtis Jones. In a few weeks, that could change, as Davide Frattesi is out of Chivu’s project and should leave soon.

His exit – loan or permanent, would free up some finances at Inter and can drive the move for the Liverpool player.

Andoni Iraola’s side may not have too much of a choice either. The only thing they can do is try to tie Jones down to a contract beyond 2027.
