HSV Hamburg are still waiting on Arsenal to respond as they seek a permanent deal for Fábio Vieira this summer.
Hamburger Morgenpost provide the latest update on the 26-year-old today and comments from HSV board member Eric Huwer on the matter.

Fábio Vieira spent last season on loan at Hamburg from Arsenal. They are keen to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.
Talks have been ongoing on that front for weeks. The big problem, as has been made clear from the start, is that HSV don’t want to and cannot pay what Arsenal are demanding. Huwer has confirmed as much with his latest comments.
“We have backed up our interest with Arsenal by putting figures on the table; the matter is well known. But right now, there hasn’t been any movement on their end,” he said at HSV’s training camp in Austria.
“We are confident we can make Fábio a very competitive offer within our means, without taking on debt.”
Arsenal want €18m
The newspaper then reports information from Sky backing up that Arsenal’s demands are currently blocking the deal.
According to their information, Arsenal currently want €18m, despite the midfielder’s contract expiring next summer. That is a sum HSV certainly could not afford, making the move unrealistic.
Whether the two sides now move closer to an agreement as the transfer window progresses remains to be seen. For now, HSV Hamburg have been left in suspense, waiting to see if a deal can take place.
Their best bet, as MOPO seem to be hinting at, is waiting for Arsenal to get desperate late in the window. They cannot afford to let the 26-year-old, who cost €35m in 2022, leave on a free transfer if they can avoid it.
This summer is the final one in which they can get a sale, and that may be what HSV are planning on.
