Knighthead say Birmingham City chairman Tom Wagner is ‘making strong progress’ in his recovery and expect him to return to a match ‘soon’ in their first update on his condition in over five months.
Supporters had been awaiting an update after months of silence since Blues’ owners Knighthead revealed in February that Wagner would be stepping down from his highly visible role after suffering a stroke.
However, they released a positive update today and say that, while he won’t be in attendance at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park when Blues face Spanish champions FC Barcelona in their final pre-season friendly on Friday night, Wagner’s commitment to the club hasn’t wavered one bit and a return isn’t far away.
Knighthead’s full statement reads: “Ahead of the new season, we wanted to share an update on Birmingham City Football Club Chairman, Tom Wagner.
“Tom continues to make strong progress in his recovery. He remains deeply grateful for the countless messages of support and well wishes he has received from Blues fans over recent months. Those messages have meant a great deal to him and certainly hardened his resolve to be back in top form as quickly as possible.
“Tom’s primary focus remains on his continued recovery, and while he will not be at St. Andrew’s tomorrow, he is immensely proud of what has been built. He has complete confidence in the club’s leadership and the broader Knighthead team as they continue to execute our long-term strategy.
“We all look forward to welcoming Tom back to St. Andrew’s and expect to see him at a match in the near future. Knighthead’s commitment to Birmingham City Football Club has never been stronger.
“As stewards of the club, we remain fully focused on delivering our long-term vision by investing across the football operation, the fan experience, club infrastructure, and the development of Birmingham’s Sports Quarter, including the future Powerhouse Stadium.
“The progress made to date has always been the product of a committed team working toward a shared vision. That work continues with the same discipline, ambition, and long-term perspective that have guided our investment from the beginning.

Blues have made five signings so far this summer and begin their first competitive campaign away at Swansea City in the Carabao Cup, before travelling to Sheffield United on the Championship’s opening weekend.
