**Maxence Lacroix has explained why he needed little time to decide that joining Chelsea was the right move for his career.**
The France international completed his transfer from Crystal Palace on a contract running until 2032.
Lacroix spoke with Xabi Alonso and several Chelsea players before making the move across London. Those conversations left the defender convinced that Stamford Bridge was the perfect destination.
“I think it’s the best move for me because it’s the best club in the world,” Lacroix told [Chelsea’s official website](https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/maxence-lacroix-cant-wait-to-write-the-next-chapter-in-his-and-chelseas).
Lacroix discussed tactics and Alonso’s plans during a telephone conversation with the Chelsea head coach.
“I saw that we have the same direction and desire for this club,” he said.
The 26-year-old also spoke with Malo Gusto, Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile before agreeing to join. Their assessment of Chelsea helped remove any remaining uncertainty.
“They told me it was the best club I can go to,” Lacroix added.
“After talking to people, I said to myself: ‘This is the best step forward for me’.”
Lacroix arrives with Premier League experience after spending two seasons at Palace. He also won the FA Cup, Community Shield and UEFA Conference League during his time at Selhurst Park.

The defender faced several of his new team-mates during France’s World Cup third-place play-off against England. Morgan Rogers started that match, while James and Chalobah appeared from the bench.
Lacroix is now looking forward to playing alongside them under Alonso.
“I feel like we have a story to write here,” he said.
“I can be part of it, so it’s beautiful.”
