Manchester City have made progress to sign Marseille goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli this summer.
The Premier League side are selling James Trafford to Leeds United. His exit will see them to look for a stopper, and this is where Rulli comes into the picture.
Player agrees terms with Manchester City
The Argentina international has opened the door to join Manchester City by reaching an agreement for personal terms.
That’s according to journalist Uriel Iugt, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a short update.
Gerónimo Rulli has agreed on a two-year contract, and this will come into effect if Enzo Maresca’s side agree terms with Marseille. He claims the negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing.
Manchester City table offer
Last month, Sport Witness covered claims from Argentina of Tottenham Hotspur as an option for the 34-year-old this summer.
However, Spurs didn’t make advances while their Premier League counterpart have taken concrete steps.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, and their title says: ‘Things are heating up between Marseille and Manchester City for Gerónimo Rulli’.
Within the report, they explain the South American is ‘on his way’ to the Etihad as he’s keen on joining the Citizens.
He is in his final year of contract, and Transfermarkt value him at €6m. Enzo Maresca’s side have made a €2m bid while the French club are expecting €3.5m.
Despite the difference, the negotiations between the two clubs are progressing well. In fact, there’s confidence the stopper will end up at Manchester City in this window.
Must settle for backup role
Gerónimo Rulli joined Marseille from Ajax in August 2024 and has been their No.1 since then.
He kept 14 clean sheets and conceded 99 goals from 73 matches for the Ligue 1 side.
Manchester City want the Argentine as a backup for their No.1 Gianluigi Donnarumma. This doesn’t seem to bother Rulli, who should arrive at the Etihad once the English club secure a total agreement.
