Bruno Guimaraes is set to reunite with his Newcastle United team-mates on Sunday in Spain, where he will discuss his club future with Matthias Jaissle. Whether that will dispel doubts surrounding the club captain's future amid heavy interest from Arsenal remains to be seen.
However, it means that the Brazilian will not join team-mates on Friday's flight to the club's La Manga training camp. There's an air of uncertainty surrounding Guimaraes' future at St James' park, with negotiations suggesting that he could be on the move ahead of September's transfer deadline. Those concerns have been further strengthened by his representatives holding their cards close to their chest when asked about a potential move by the Express' sister title in the north-east, ChronicleLive.
However, Newcastle sources indicate that Bruno has been given his own travel arrangements and the intention is for him to begin pre-season work with Newcastle as planned. The postponement is said to be linked to his post-World Cup fitness schedule, and it is understood that this aligns with his extended break following the tournament in the United States.
Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson will travel to La Manga with the squad ahead of Jaissle's arrival this weekend. Senior discussions took place yesterday following Eddie Howe's departure, and Jaissle - who will bring his own backroom staff - will cost United £8m in compensation after reaching an agreement with Al-Ahli.
Toon players were left seeking explanations yesterday as some discovered via the media that Howe was departing. However, they will receive greater clarification at lunchtime on Friday, and learn which staff members will oversee the team for the initial phase of their La Manga trip.

Wilson will remain to provide support and head of performance James Bunce was also anticipated to continue. Yet the expectation is that Jaissle will be authorised shortly to lead the squad and a fresh era can formally commence.
Wilson is understood to be finalising the arrangement for Jaissle and a four-year contract has been offered. CEO David Hopkinson spent yesterday on the ground on Tyneside on another day that shook the football club as Howe's tenure after five years reached an abrupt conclusion.
The journey back from Bristol City following the 4-1 defeat in the south west was thought to have been a subdued affair, with some insiders indicating they sensed something was "wrong" and Howe's backroom staff informed shortly after touchdown.
Yet the players will be updated and there is enthusiasm at the club that Jaissle can introduce a style of attacking football to Newcastle and develop Howe's successful legacy.
