Arsenal have explored the possibility of signing Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior this summer.
Last weekend, the Athletic’s David Ornstein first reported this. Since then, there’s been multiple claims of the Premier League’s interest in the forward.
Four days ago, Sport Witness covered conflicting claims from Spain of Arsenal’s desire to sign him. Mundo Deportivo denied any contact from the Gunners while AS reported an approach.
Strong interest from Arsenal
ESPN Deportes journalist Rodra covers the latest on Mikel Arteta’s side and the 26-year-old’s future, relayed by Bernabéu Digital.
The Brazil international is in his final year of contract and his desire is to extend his stay.
Real Madrid also want to offer him an extension but are refusing to meet the conditions requested by his representatives. Therefore, the renewal is on hold and his future remains uncertain.
The journalist says José Mourinho’s side were supposed to hold talks with Vinícius Júnior’s camp after the World Cup. That hasn’t happened yet and the talks have been postponed.
Player standing firm
Rodra states Vinícius has already made his terms clear for an extension. The South American has no intention of resuming talks unless Real Madrid improve their offer. Los Blancos haven’t done this and are unlikely to do so in a short term.
This should certainly encourage Arsenal, who have a strong interest in Vinícius. The journalist claims the north club have made a first approach to sign him.
Mikel Arteta’s side made a direct contact with Roc Nation Sports, the agency that manage the Real Madrid star, ‘to present their initial offer’.
The player will return to Real Madrid on Friday for the pre-season training. There may be more developments in the next few days.
Vinícius and the Spanish giants want to extend his contract, however, that is only possible if there’s a compromise. Arsenal will hope the two parties refuse to budge, to have an opening to sign him this summer.
Last season, he managed 22 goals and 14 assists from 51 matches.
