Cagliari midfielder Demi Akariki has detailed the role his agent played this summer in convincing him to leave Everton for the Italian club.
Tutto Cagliari relay comments from the 18-year-old today. He left Everton for the Serie A side earlier this summer, bringing an end to a two year stay on Merseyside.
Everton exit
The youngster had been with the Blues since 2024, when he arrived on a free transfer from Arsenal. He was a regular at both U18 level (41 appearances) and U21 level (18 appearances) before his departure this summer.
And he admits he found a family at the club, alongside coaches who helped develop him into the player he now is.
“I found a family at Everton, too,” he said.
“A tight-knit group. I made many friends. And there, as well, I found skilled and knowledgeable coaches. Every coach I’ve had so far has helped me become the player I am today.”
Agent pushed move
That did not stop a departure this summer, though. Sport Witness already covered comments from his agent earlier this month explaining that contract negotiations with Everton had been at the heart of the issue.
According to him, negotiations had been ongoing for four or five months regarding a professional deal. But they, instead, preferred a move to Serie A and an immediate step up that was not on offer under David Moyes.
Now the youngster admits that it was his agent who pushed the move to Cagliari. And he didn’t hesitate to seize it immediately.
“When the opportunity to come here to Cagliari arose, I seized it immediately,” he added.
“My agent is Sardinian; he told me about the people in Sardinia, the atmosphere, the warm climate, and the team. He helped me better understand the place I was coming to.
“I’ve spoken with the coach, and he’s helping me settle in. He explained the type of player he values and the position where he wants me to play. He’s very demanding on the pitch and tells me exactly what he wants from me. He’s going to help me grow.”
