Man Utd considering leapfrogging Barcelona after crazy low £7m offer for star

With less than a month to go until Michael Carrick's first full campaign in charge of Manchester United gets underway, the Red Devils still have plenty of work to do.

Those at Old Trafford are still on the hunt for another midfielder, despite already welcoming Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, with Aurelien Tchouameni the name threatening to steal the headlines as of late.

Meanwhile, United are also on the hunt for a new left-back to replace Luke Shaw in the long term.

To that end, Lewis Hall remains their top target, but question marks remain whether a deal for the Newcastle United man will be within INEOS' reach. And while that remains the case, Jorge Salinas will increasingly become one to watch.

Tackles 54 91

Recoveries 134 107

Duel success 54.3% 51.6%

Although it has to be noted that Salinas played his football in La Liga 2 last season, there's no denying that the 19-year-old is one of the most promising young players in Spain.

If he can translate his numbers to top flight football, then Man United would have a left-back capable of providing seven assists and maintaining his defensive responsibilities. At just 19, the Spaniard is likely to get even better with a big move, too.

It's also worth pointing out that Salinas would arguably be better placed to act as a deputy for Shaw, before taking his place in the coming years. Hall, meanwhile, would instantly demand a starting spot - creating an unnecessary headache for Carrick.

Man Utd complete in-person checks on Jorge Salinas

As reported by TeamTalk, Man United are now threatening to hijack Barcelona's move for Salinas this summer. The Catalan club have held talks over a deal to sign the Racing left-back, but are still €8m (£7m) short of his €16m (£14m) valuation - leaving the door ajar for the Red Devils.

United have already completed in-person checks on the teenager, which took place at the European Under-19 Championship this summer, and scouts loved what they saw.

As a deal with Barcelona continues to stall, Man United have the chance to turn their interest into an offer and land the long-term Shaw replacement that they've been searching for.

Dubbed "excellent" by scout Jacek Kulig, Salinas is one to watch as the beginning of the season rapidly closes in.

Man Utd leapfrog Chelsea in Alex Scott race

Of course, it's not just a left-back that Man United are after. Reports are also claiming that the Red Devils have also now leapfrogged Chelsea in the race to sign Alex Scott from Bournemouth.

The Cherries have been adamant that the midfielder is not for sale this summer, but the rumours are refusing to go away. The Manchester club are now reportedly preparing a bid to sign Scott as they look to land a third midfield signing and get one over on Chelsea in the process.
