Throughout this summer, they have been linked with Brazilian international Bruno Guimaraes. However, it appears the Magpies were reluctant to sell after losing Sandro Tonali to Tottenham. Eddie Howe and Guimaraes are reportedly close, and now that Howe has departed St James’ Park, it feels like the Brazilian is closer to the exit doors.
The Gunners Reach Deal in Principle for Guimaraes
Yes, it’s been a slow transfer window for the Gunners, but their move for Guimaraes appears to be entering its final stages.
The Brazilian has already agreed to a deal until 2031, with Newcastle’s valuation of £85 (€100) million holding the deal up.

After having two offers rejected, Arsenal appear to have finally got their man, with a base price of £77 (€90) million swaying the Magpies. Bonuses and agent fees are still to be negotiated, but this is undoubtedly a significant step forward in the deal.
Lyon, where Guimaraes previously played, could receive more than £6.9 (€8) million. Many reports have surfaced this summer that the Brazilian wanted to move to Arsenal to play in the Champions League.
What Guimaraes Brings to Arsenal
Guimaraes has been previously described as “exceptional” by Pep Guardiola, and it’s easy to see why.
He will bring a steeliness to the Arsenal midfield. He’s an accomplished passer, both short and more creative long passes. He’s calm under pressure and is happy to always receive the ball, making him a vital outlet for teammates.
He’s more than capable of dropping deep to receive the ball and start attacks. Whether he plays deep or further up the pitch, his incisive passing is arguably his best asset and will be a huge weapon for Arsenal, should this deal get over the line as expected.
