Arsenal and Tottenham have both been credited with interest in Chivas youngster Hugo Camberos.
The rivals stepped up their monitoring during the winger’s impressive performances for Mexico at the CONCACAF U20 Championship.
The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the standout players in the tournament. And his displays are now attracting fresh attention from the Premier League.
According to Mexico’s TUDN journalist Zaritsi Sosa, scouts from both North London clubs were in attendance for Mexico’s victory over Guatemala. Camberos was one of the key players under observation.
The latest report suggests Arsenal and Tottenham used the match to get another look at one of Mexico’s brightest young attacking talents, as he continues to strengthen his reputation on the international stage.
Tournament form attracting attention
Hugo Camberos has backed up the growing hype with goals throughout the competition.
The Chivas winger scored in Mexico’s opening win over Antigua and Barbuda. He also converted a penalty against Costa Rica and found the net again against Guatemala. Those performances have helped establish him as one of the leaders of manager Álex Diego’s side. As a result, they continue their unbeaten run.
His form has inevitably attracted European interest. The latest scouting trip adds Arsenal and Tottenham to the list of clubs keeping tabs on his development.
This is not the first time Camberos has been linked with a move abroad. Belgian side Club Brugge attempted to sign him around a year ago, but the transfer failed to materialise after the clubs were unable to reach an agreement.
Another name to watch
Hugo Camberos is regarded as one of Chivas’ most promising academy graduates. Primarily a winger, he can operate across the front line. This is thanks to his pace, dribbling ability and willingness to attack defenders.
His current market value is estimated at around €3m (£2.6m), although any future asking price would likely be dictated by Chivas rather than that figure.
For now, there is no suggestion Arsenal or Tottenham have made an approach. The report only states that both clubs sent representatives to watch him during Mexico’s latest U20 outing.
If Camberos continues his current form throughout the tournament, though, it would not be a surprise if Premier League interest became more concrete over the coming months, particularly with both clubs maintaining a strong focus on recruiting emerging young talent from overseas.
