Arsenal have reportedly scheduled a medical for Bruno Guimaraes as the Gunners look to wrap up a deal for the Newcastle United star. The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Brazil international for some time, and the speculation has begun to gather pace over the last few days.
Guimaraes’ future at Newcastle has been the subject of intense speculation for some time, with reports earlier in the summer claiming that the 28-year-old had expressed a desire to leave St James’ Park amid interest from Arsenal.
Arsenal are looking to strengthen their midfield options this summer and Guimaraes has been identified as a target, but it remains to be seen if and when a deal with Newcastle will be agreed.
A fresh report from the Daily Mail has claimed that Arsenal are planning to have a medical for Guimaraes next week, with a day already being dedicated in the calendar for the remaining formalities of the transfer.
The update follows reports that Arsenal are close to agreeing a £77million deal to sign Guimaraes, who has two years left to run on his contract on Tyneside.
It has also been suggested that Arsenal and Guimaraes have already agreed personal terms over a long-term contract, which would be set to run until the summer of 2031.
Guimaraes spent the first half of the summer with the Brazil squad for the World Cup and is still on his summer break following his involvement in the tournament.
There is an expectation that Guimaraes will return to pre-season duties with Newcastle on Sunday, but there continues to be speculation that a departure may be imminent.

Guimaraes’ future has also become increasingly uncertain following news that Edie Howe has left his role as Newcastle manager.
Reports have since speculated that Howe’s departure comes with the belief that Guimaraes would end up joining Arsenal on a permanent deal.
Arsenal have until September 1 to complete their transfer business and add to the two signings already completed by the club, with Illan Meslier and Christos Tzolis both moving to north London.
