Arsenal transfer target Bruno Guimaraes has paid a heartfelt tribute to Eddie Howe, crowning him the "King of the club" in an emotional farewell message following the confirmation of the head coach's exit from Newcastle United.
Howe leaves St. James' Park after five-years with the Magpies, calling it the right time to leave. It's another blow for Newcastle with ongoing uncertainty about Guimaraes' future at the club.
Mikel Arteta's side are hoping to sign the Brazilian playmaker this summer, with reports claiming a £77m deal has been agreed, plus add-ons, while Newcastle deny any club-to-club agreement.
Other reports claim Howe's decision to step down was in part due to a belief that Guimaraes would be sold to Arsenal this summer.
Taking to Instagram, Guimaraes sent an emotional message to Howe after his exit was confirmed. He wrote: "King of this club! Thanks for everything you've done for us. I loved our time together.
"You made me a better player and person. No words can say how much I enjoyed being your player. Wish you all the very best in your future gaffer."
In a further heartfelt post, Guimaraes continued: "Ed, how could I ever put into words how grateful I am to you? First of all, I want to thank you for bringing me to this club.
"Thank you for everything you've done for me, for helping me grow not only as a player, but more importantly, as a person.
"You gave me the honour of being captain - of being your captain. That is something I will never forget and will carry with me for the rest of my life.
"Sharing the day-to-day with you and having you as my manager has been a privilege. I'm truly grateful for every opportunity, for the trust you placed in me, and for every moment we shared together.
"Without a doubt, you are one of the best managers I've ever had. Please know that my gratitude will always remain, and that you will always have a friend in me.
"Thank you for everything. I wish you and your family nothing but happiness, success, and all the very best. With affection, Bruno."

Howe resigned from his role at St. James' Park in the wake of a 4-1 pre-season loss to Bristol City, a match Guimaraes missed.
The club captain remains away on extended leave following his World Cup commitments with Brazil and has not yet returned to training.
Questions linger over Guimaraes' long-term future on Tyneside, with Arsenal showing keen interest in acquiring the midfielder, although negotiations between the two sides have yet to reach a conclusion.
Addressing Guimaraes' situation following the Bristol City loss, Howe commented: "What will be, will be. We can't control the forces that are at play here, we've just got to make sure that when Bruno comes back, we look after him and he trains well, which I'm sure he will do. And he makes a difference as he always has done.
"We've spoken numerous times. Assurances? I don't think you can push too hard for those.
"I've said many times we want players who are committed, and Bruno has always been committed. His training performances and his game performances have been outstanding, every time he's worn the shirt, he's played with the fans by his side. I'd love to see that continue."
