Liverpool want to sign former Chelsea defender after Joe Gomez injury
With just over three weeks to go for the start of the new season, Liverpool have been rocked by a significant injury blow.
Andoni Iraola confirmed earlier today that Joe Gomez is set to spend a spell on the sidelines after suffering a muscle injury.
This is obviously a considerable blow for the Reds as Giovanni Leoni is also injured, while new signing Jeremy Jacquet has yet to feature in pre-season.
Liverpool are likely to add to their central defensive options, and reports from Italy claim they have taken steps towards bringing Fikayo Tomori back to England.
Liverpool want Fikayo Tomori
Tomori is no stranger to England, having represented Chelsea and Derby County before moving to AC Milan.
The experienced defender has just a year left on his contract, making him an intriguing market opportunity.
Tutto Juve report that Liverpool and Juventus are in the running to secure his signature, with the Reds, in particular, taking steps towards signing him after Gomez’s injury.
The Reds are evaluating a formal offer and are believed to have made formal contact with Milan, who aren’t opposed to a sale if the right offer comes along.
Tomori knows English football quite well and if he comes at the right price, he could well be an inspired addition for the Reds.
Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Illia Zabarnyi, who could leave PSG after spending just a solitary season in Paris.
Iraola knows the Ukrainian defender quite well after their respective stints with Bournemouth, so this is another deal worth keeping an eye on.
