Benoît Badiashile transfer news: Chelsea have entered serious discussions with Napoli over Benoît Badiashile, whose future at Stamford Bridge now looks increasingly uncertain. Italian journalist Nicolo Schira reports that negotiations are progressing around an initial loan with an option to buy worth between €20 million and €23 million. He also states that the French defender has already given his approval to the move, making personal terms unlikely to become an obstacle.
That proposal does not match Chelsea’s preferred plan. The Blues want a straight permanent transfer, while Napoli are trying to reduce their immediate financial commitment with a loan structure. Badiashile’s omission from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Australia only added weight to the speculation after the club confirmed ongoing transfer discussions.
Xabi Alonso has already revealed that several central defenders will leave before the transfer window closes on 1 September, leaving the 25-year-old firmly on the exit list. Schira expects formal negotiations to continue as both clubs search for common ground over the final agreement.
Chelsea have little reason to accept Napoli‘s preferred terms. An option to buy gives the Italian side complete flexibility while leaving the Premier League club exposed if the move fails. Should Badiashile struggle under Massimiliano Allegri or Napoli decide against making the transfer permanent, Chelsea would take back a player whose value may have slipped even further despite his contract running until June 2030.
His limited role during 2025/26 explains why a move suits everyone. Badiashile made only eight Premier League appearances, playing 472 minutes. Across those outings, he produced 41 clearances, four blocks and three successful tackles while completing 95 per cent of his passes. His overall campaign brought just 14 appearances in all competitions before he disappeared from regular selection during the final months.

Napoli’s urgency changes the balance of these negotiations. Alessandro Buongiorno faces around three months out after meniscus surgery, while Sam Beukema has struggled with fitness. They need an experienced left-footed centre-back now, which hands Chelsea genuine leverage despite Badiashile’s reduced role.
Scorzo believes Chelsea should reject any agreement built around an optional purchase clause. A paid loan worth €3-5 million followed by a mandatory €25 million obligation based on achievable appearance targets makes far greater business sense. Chelsea invested around €38 million to sign Badiashile from Monaco in 2023, so accepting €20-23 million with no guarantee of a permanent sale would leave far too much risk on their side of the deal.
