Mikel Arteta's wish to bolster his midfield options could very well come true this month. Arsenal are well-stocked in that area of the pitch with Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Martin Zubimendi, Martin Odegaard, Christian Norgaard and Myles Lewis-Skelly all currently options for the Gunners boss.

However, that hasn't stopped him from chasing Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes for much of the summer. The departure of Eddie Howe earlier this week could leave the Magpies extremely vulnerable when it comes to keeping their skipper.

A deal for the 28-year-old isn't the only marquee arrival Arteta is targeting, with the manager wanting Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior. Arsenal's interest in the winger could be dialled up by the latest update in his contract saga with the La Liga giants.

Vinicius Jr handed ultimatum

The future of Vinicius Jr has been a topic of discussion for months, with uncertainty leading to Arsenal's registered interest in acquiring the Brazilian superstar. A deal to extend his contract at Real Madrid has yet to lead to a breakthrough in negotiations and it seems the Spanish giants have grown frustrated with the lack of progress.

According to Marca, Jose Mourinho's side have put forth a final offer to the 26-year-old, with no increases in salary or further rounds of negotiations expected to occur. The report from the Spanish outlet claims that if Vinicius rejects the deal, Madrid will look to sell him this summer.

The club's senior figures have reportedly resisted his demands to be level with their top earner, Kylian Mbappe. Mourinho - who marked his return to the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this summer - is said to have personally told the Brazilian that he wants him to stay.

Bruno Guimaeres 'fee agreed'

Months of attempting to complete a deal for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes looks to have come to fruition. According to L'Equipe, the Gunners have clinched a £77m deal with the Magpies for his services, while bonuses and agent fees are yet to be agreed upon.

Another winner from the deal is Guimaraes' former club Lyon. The French side sold the midfielder to Newcastle for £40m in 2022, with the agreement that the Ligue 1 outfit would receive 20% of the profit from any future sale.

Should the final fee sit at £77m, Lyon would be entitled to almost £8m. The 28-year-old is keen to join the Premier League champions and his departure would be the fourth major summer exit from Newcastle, after Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and manager Howe. The arrival of the Brazil international would hand Arteta valuable depth in midfield ahead of their defence of the league title.
