Liverpool has 22 days until its next Premier League campaign kicks off up at Newcastle, while there are now only 30 days remaining of the summer transfer window.

With the clock ticking, the Reds have plenty to do. Liverpool still needs to get a move for the PSG winger Bradley Barcola over the line — more on him shortly — while a defender needed to be a priority even before it was confirmed that Joe Gomez would be absent until the season has started with the injury he sustained against Sunderland.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. We start with the latest on Barcola, with sporting director Richard Hughes set to up the ante in the pursuit.

Bradley Barcola (PSG)

Bayern Munich has ruled itself out of a move for PSG forward Barcola, insisting that its summer business is now complete. The German giant was one of the options that had been put forward for the 23-year-old.

Arsenal has also been linked with a swoop, but Liverpool is the favorite to sign Barcola from here, as long as a deal can be agreed with PSG for his services.

Barcola is valued at well above $100M but would be keen on moving to Anfield. PSG's high valuation is based on transfers that have already happened this summer, including Morgan Rogers and Elliot Anderson.

"I was smiling every time I read the transfer rumors this summer," sporting director Max Eberl told a press conference unveiling new signing Nathaniel Brown.

"We wrapped up the deals for Nathaniel and Ismael Sibari very quickly, and I thought it was clear that we had finished our signings. I was smiling at the names being linked with us, as these rumors are zero per cent true."

Liverpool.com says: Barcola would be a brilliant addition for the Reds but not for silly money. PSG is well within its rights to demand a high sum, but the French winger wants to move on and get regular game time elsewhere.

Fikayo Tomori (AC Milan)

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori has been the subject of an inquiry from Liverpool and various other clubs this summer, according to a report in Italy.

According to TuttoJuve, the Reds and Juventus are both keeping an eye on the 28-year-old. He would come with the added advantage of being homegrown for any club in England.

Andoni Iraola has already spoken about the need to bring in more depth in defense, and adding another experienced head alongside some of the younger options would be beneficial.

Gomez's injury only further underlined the need for reinforcements at the back, offering a timely reminder of the limited numbers Liverpool is currently working with.

Liverpool.com says: With Gomez already hamstrung and Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley not yet back, it makes sense to add another body at the back. Someone who can play center-back and right-back would be ideal.
