Premier League transfer news latest as Liverpool, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Chelsea and more eye summer window switches
We’re into the final three weekends of the summer without Premier League football, as the countdown to the 2026/27 campaign continues. The 2026 World Cup brought some welcome relief for football-starved fans, but now the drought is taking its toll, with only pre-season friendlies and Fantasy Premier League squad drafting there to fill the void.

Behind the scenes, Premier League clubs are cracking on with their summer business in the transfer window, as they look to get as many of their top targets in before the big kick-off later this month. We’ve seen some mega-money deals done already, with Manchester City, Chelsea and Spurs all signing a player over the £100m mark.
Today’s rumours round-up starts at St. James’ Park, where Newcastle United continue to cling on to club captain Bruno Guimaraes. It’s set to be a summer of great change at the club, with manager Eddie Howe soon to be replaced by Matthias Jaissle, and a number of first team stars being sold. Team Talk report that Arsenal are now ready to accelerate their move for Guimaraes, amidst the chaos engulfing the Magpies.
They say that while the Brazil international will join up with his teammates for pre-season training in Spain, the player’s entourage are of the firm belief that he will join Arsenal this summer. It’s said that the Gunners could even agree a deal worth over £80m before Sunday, which would mean Guimaraes could avoid joining up with his teammates, before then having to leave again soon after.
The 3AM Verdict: Oh come on, Arsenal - just get the deal done. This one has dragged on for weeks, and we all know exactly how it will end. The Gunners got their hands burnt when it came to indecision over Morgan Rogers, with Chelsea swooping in to hijack the deal, and Arsenal would do well to learn their lesson and get the Guimaraes move completed swiftly.

Up next, the Cherries are fighting tooth and nail to hold on to star midfielder Alex Scott. Caught Offside report that Chelsea are preparing a £70m bid, after seeing their initial £64m offer turned down. However, it’s also said that the Blues aren’t alone in the race to sign the England U21 international, with Liverpool also in the running.
The story goes on to claim the Reds can’t be ruled out of making a bid for the 22-year-old gem, and notes their new manager Andoni Iraola is a serious fan of the player, having managed him at Bournemouth before joining Liverpool earlier this summer. The Cherries sold to Liverpool last year, sending them Milos Kerkez in exchange for £40m.
The 3AM Verdict: With Curtis Jones likely to join Inter, Liverpool could certainly do with a fresh pair of legs in midfield. Scott was terrific for Bournemouth last season, and it’s clear to see why the Premier League elite are after him. It sounds like he’s very much got his heart set on Chelsea, however, and that’s even if the Cherries can be convinced to sell.

Over to south London for our final story, where Crystal Palace are in hot pursuit of Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell. So say Football Insider, who suggest that Ligue 1 side Rennes have already seen an offer close to £20m for the 23-year-old turned down. It’s claimed that Palace are ready to scrap with Fulham to make the signing, as they look to replace Maxence Lacroix.
The report also notes that the Eagles failed to sign Chrislain Matsima from Bundesliga outfit Augsburg, but offers no further detail on Palace’s apparent interest in Cresswell. There’s no suggestion of how much Toulouse are willing to accept for their defender, or indeed how much Palace are willing to pay. There’s also no indication of whether the player wants to leave hs current club.
The 3AM Verdict: Reading stories from the outlet in question is, troublingly often, much like biting into a juicy looking burger, only to find there’s nothing but pickles inside.Palace were linked with Cresswell at the start of July, so there may well be some truth here, but the details are too scant at present to read much into the latest report.
