Chelsea vs Tottenham: Prediction, team news and predicted lineups
ReadChelsea’s preview of the game vs Tottenham preview brings Xabi Alonso’s side back to Accor Stadium for the first London derby staged outside the United Kingdom.
Chelsea opened their pre-season programme with a dramatic 6-4 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers, while Tottenham arrive unbeaten under Roberto De Zerbi.
João Pedro scored a nine-minute hat-trick from the bench on Tuesday after Dastan Satpayev, Dário Essugo and Jamie Gittens also found the net.
Chelsea’s attacking display offered plenty of encouragement. However, conceding four goals highlighted the defensive work still required before the Premier League campaign begins.
Tottenham have already played three pre-season fixtures. Spurs defeated MK Dons and Auckland FC before overcoming Sydney FC on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
Chelsea vs Tottenham is scheduled for a 10.45am BST kick-off on Saturday, 1 August 2026.
The Sydney Super Cup fixture will take place at the 83,500-capacity Accor Stadium in Sydney. It will be the first meeting between the London rivals staged outside the UK.

Chelsea vs Tottenham team news
Alonso is expected to select a stronger starting side after naming several academy players against Western Sydney Wanderers.
Robert Sánchez, Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, Marco Palestra, Cole Palmer, Estevão, Gittens and João Pedro were introduced after the hour mark on Tuesday. Their arrival helped Chelsea overturn a 4-3 deficit and win 6-4.
Palmer has declared himself fit and refreshed after enjoying an extended summer break. Alonso sees the England international operating as a number 10 in the pockets behind the striker.
Romeo Lavia is available after missing the opening friendly with minor hamstring discomfort. However, Chelsea may continue to manage his minutes carefully.
Jorrel Hato and Mamadou Sarr will need assessing after neither featured on Tuesday. Palestra could make his first start following his debut from the bench.
Moisés Caicedo and Nicolas Jackson have joined the tour, but their recent arrivals make them unlikely starters. Morgan Rogers, Enzo Fernández, Reece James, Malo Gusto and Maxence Lacroix remain unavailable after their World Cup involvement.
Mykhailo Mudryk will not feature despite being cleared to resume his career. The winger is expected to join Chelsea in Hong Kong after the Tottenham fixture, as covered in ReadChelsea’s analysis of Mudryk’s possible role under Alonso.
Tottenham remain without James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, Dejan Kulusevski and Wilson Odobert.
Mateus Fernandes will also miss the match after experiencing fatigue in his calf. De Zerbi confirmed that the former Aston Villa midfielder should resume training when Tottenham return to London.
Micky van de Ven, Dominic Solanke, Kevin Danso and Jan Paul van Hecke have been following individual fitness programmes. De Zerbi suggested some could feature against Chelsea, while Andy Robertson and Sandro Tonali are pushing for their first starts.
Predicted Chelsea and Tottenham lineups
Chelsea predicted XI, 4-2-3-1: Sánchez; Palestra, Fofana, Colwill, Emenalo; Nicoll-Jazuli, Watson; Palmer, Walsh, Satpayev; João Pedro.
Alonso could retain several academy players while increasing the experience around them. Palmer and João Pedro should provide considerably more quality in the final third.
Tottenham predicted XI, 4-3-3: Kinsky; Gray, Van Hecke, Davies, Robertson; Bergvall, Tonali, Gallagher; Solomon, Solanke, Tel.
Both managers will make extensive substitutions. The starting lineups may therefore only remain together for 45 to 60 minutes.
Chelsea’s defensive performance against Western Sydney will have concerned Alonso, particularly during transitions and after possession was lost.
Tottenham should offer a far more organised pressing challenge under De Zerbi. Tonali, Gallagher and Bergvall can make the midfield uncomfortable if Chelsea struggle to play through pressure.
However, Chelsea possess greater attacking quality among the players expected to receive minutes. Palmer, Estevão, Gittens and João Pedro can punish a Tottenham defence missing several established players.
The rivalry should also create a more competitive atmosphere than most pre-season fixtures. Josh Acheampong insisted there are “no friendlies” when Chelsea face Tottenham.

João Pedro scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory in north London before Chelsea won the return fixture 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have now won six consecutive competitive meetings between the clubs.
