Fans in Australia will be treated to a London derby Down Under this morning as Chelsea and Tottenham face off in the Sydney Super Cup. It is the most high-profile friendly of the summer to date for these two teams, as Xabi Alonso and Robert De Zerbi embark on their first pre-season campaigns at their clubs.
For Chelsea, it the second public match of their summer, with the first seeing saw Xabi Alonso’s reign start with an entertaining 6-4 win over Western Sydney Wanderers. The line-up featured a number of academy players, and saw Dastan Satpayev mark his debut with a goal before Joao Pedro came on and scored a nine-minute hat-trick.
Spurs have made a more extension summer schedule thus far, and are unbeaten in three friendly fixtures, having beat MK Dons, Auckland FC and Sydney FC over the past fortnight. Highly-rated young midfielder Luca Williams-Barnett will be hoping for more minutes, but both James Maddison and Mateus Fernandes has been ruled out through injury. Pre-season exploits take us to Sydney this morning as Chelsea take on Tottenham in the Sydney Super Cup.
Having seen off Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers respectively, the Blues and Spurs will now face off at the Accor Stadium.
We should see plenty of players on show from both teams, though more senior players are expected to start from the off compared to earlier pre-season run outs.
