Is Everton fan frustration with Moyes a one-off, or shared by many?
A talkSPORT caller’s verdict on David Moyes went viral this week.
“He’s uninspiring, he lacks strategy at nearly every level,” the fan said. “If you want to watch a team with no inspiration, watch a Moyes team. My time was up with him a long time ago.”
The numbers back him up.
What the data says
Grand Old Team’s 2025/26 fan survey, completed by more than 4,000 supporters, put Moyes’ satisfaction rating at 11%. That’s the lowest score for any Everton manager since the survey began in 2018. Seventy per cent of respondents said they were dissatisfied with the team’s performance last season.
Those numbers followed a 13th-place finish, matching the club’s points tally from the previous two seasons combined under Sean Dyche, despite well over £100m spent on players since Moyes returned.
Not just one caller
Forums like Grand Old Team and ToffeeWeb carry a similar tone. A recurring complaint: a lack of ambition and no clear tactical identity. In June, Moyes said during a World Cup punditry appearance that Everton “can’t make big huge strides.”
Fans read it as low ambition rather than realism and questioned why their manager would publicly talk down the club’s prospects during the transfer window.
The counter-argument
It isn’t unanimous. Some fans point to the context Moyes inherited: a squad that had won three of nineteen league games under Dyche, and a club mid-transition into a new stadium and ownership structure. Everton have also avoided relegation trouble every season since 2023.
The survey reflects that split. Looking ahead, 40% of respondents were pessimistic about the next five years, 33% optimistic, 26% undecided.
Where that leaves Moyes
An 11% satisfaction rating and 70% performance dissatisfaction, from over 4,000 fans, isn’t a fringe result. The talkSPORT caller is closer to the majority than the exception.
Results, not sentiment, will decide whether that changes.
