New Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle wants to hold talks with Arsenal transfer target Bruno Guimaraes. The Magpies captain is seemingly edging closer and closer to Emirates Stadium.
Recent reports have claimed the Gunners are so confident about signing him, they have even set aside a date for a medical to be held so he can be unveiled as quickly as possible. A £77million agreement in principle plus add-ons is understood to have been agreed, even though sources in the north East have claimed a deal has yet to be struck.
However, Jaissle, who was unveiled as Eddie Howe's replacement, has not given up hope of holding onto his skipper.
Jaissle wants to have a sit-down, face-to-face conversation with the former Lyon midfielder, according to ChronicleLive. Newcastle are set to begin a pre-season tour of La Manga, Spain, which Guimaraes is currently expected to attend.
It's there Jaissle wants to converse with Guimaraes about the future. The 38-year-old manager is about to embark on a new era at St. James' Park where he wants to begin a new chapter.
Reports from the North East has stated Guimaraes is contractually obliged to link up with his team-mates in La Manga despite the transfer interest from Arsenal.

Meanwhile, reports from L'Equipe have claimed Arsenal and Newcastle have reached a £77m transfer agreement after several rounds of negotiations. It's also been claimed he has agreed to sign a contract until 2031 in north London.
If a move is completed, he would become the latest signing after Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis and Piero Hincapie, the latter's loan move from Bayer Leverkusen was made permanent this summer.
Guimaraes recently penned a lengthy letter to Howe, who announced his resignation as manager of Newcastle this week. It was claimed the former Magpies manager had all-but-accepted Guimaraes' exit before he decided to walk away from St. James' Park.

The Brazilian would be the third key player to leave Newcastle this summer after Anthony Gordon moved to Barcelona before the World Cup and Sandro Tonali joined Tottenham for around £100m.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are also simultaneously working on an audacious transfer for Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr. Personal terms have reportedly been agreed between the club and the Brazilian's representatives but there is a lot more work to be done yet.
Real are still hopeful of holding onto him, but reports from Spain recently claimed their latest new contract offer for him will be a take-it-or-leave-it situation, with no more deals expected to be tabled after.
