Liverpool transfer news as Cody Gakpo linked with shock Premier League move

Liverpool are looking to bolster their ranks in attack this summer after Mohamed Salah’s departure.

And yet, despite being short-staffed in the final third, Cody Gakpo has been linked with an Anfield departure this summer.

The Dutch international signed a new deal last season and is tied down at the club until 2030.

However, earlier this summer, reports emerged that Tottenham want to sign Gakpo this summer.

And now, if reports from England are to be believed, he has emerged as the Lilywhites’ leading transfer target.

Tottenham make Cody Gakpo their top target

To be fair, Fabrizio Romano has said throughout the summer that Tottenham are keeping tabs on Gakpo.

It just seemed like a strange rumour as the Reds wouldn’t ideally sell to their Premier League rivals, while the thought of weakening their attack further wasn’t expected to be entertained.

We wrote on Read Liverpool that the Reds have no intention of selling Gakpo this summer.

However, Paul O’Keefe now reports that the Dutch international is a leading target for Tottenham, who are keen to add more options in attack this summer.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side are on quite the spending spree and have also been linked with moves for Savinho and Eli Kroupi Jr, although the latter isn’t a topic of discussion currently due to his long-term injury.

Liverpool, for their part, are locked in talks to sign Bradley Barcola and have been linked with the likes of Yankuba Minteh, Said El Mala and Mathias Fernandez-Pardo, among others.

The Gakpo rumours have intensified in recent weeks, so there could be some truth in them after all, as there is no smoke without fire.
